About Us

As a community leader, we provide unparalleled social and educational services, cultural enrichment, and personal developmental skills that afford opportunities primarily for preteen and adolescent females, while also addressing intergenerational needs in the Greater Wilmington area and New Castle County.

Our collaborative community outreach organization has been making a positive impact since we were established in 1993 by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Wilmington (DE) Alumnae Chapter.

We have successfully partnered with many organizations over the years such as the United Way, William Hicks Anderson and Rose Hill Community Centers, People’s Settlement, Sojourner’s Place, Kiwanis Girl's Club, Domestic Violence Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Delaware Fund for Women and the American Lung Association to provide high-quality programs and scholarships.

Our Programming Initiatives:
  • Little Free Libraries
  • Rodney Street Tennis and Tutoring (Coming Soon)
  • DOEC has donated  over 7000 books to local community students through various outreach organizations!
  • The DOEC Literacy Wise program has partnered with I Am My Sister’s Keeper, United Way Of Delaware and Stubbs Elementary School to provide weekly reading assistance to youth. The program has been widely supported and successful thus far.
  • DOEC has established a partnership with the Community Education Building (CEB) in order to explore a potential period equity program for girls serviced by the CEB. The purpose of the period equity program is to ensure that girls from very underserved communities have educational resources, and menstrual supplies so that their periods are not a detriment to their health.

We endeavor to impact the lives of those in the diverse communities in which we live and serve. We invite you to join in our efforts by donating, volunteering your time or in-kind services and referring those most in need of our outreach efforts.
